Overview
Bitstamp is a regulated cryptocurrency exchange. This guide walks you through signing in, enabling two-factor authentication (2FA), recovering access if login fails, and common troubleshooting steps to quickly regain entry while keeping your account secure.
How to log in (Desktop)
- Open your browser and go to https://www.bitstamp.net/login.
- Enter your registered email address and password in the sign-in fields.
- If you have 2FA enabled, enter the one-time code from your authenticator app (e.g., Google Authenticator, Authy) or the SMS code if you use SMS 2FA.
- Click Sign in. If successful, you’ll be taken to your Bitstamp dashboard.
How to log in (Mobile App)
- Open the Bitstamp app (iOS / Android).
- Tap Log in, enter your email and password.
- Provide your 2FA code if prompted and complete any biometric prompts (Face ID / fingerprint) if you previously enabled them.
Tip: Enable device biometrics for faster access, but keep a backup 2FA method (recovery codes or alternative authenticator) stored safely offline.
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
2FA adds a second verification step and is strongly recommended. To enable 2FA:
- Sign in to your Bitstamp account and go to Security or Settings > Two-Factor Authentication.
- Follow on-screen steps to scan a QR code with an authenticator app and save your backup/recovery codes.
- If you lose access to your authenticator, use the saved recovery codes or follow Bitstamp’s account recovery process.
Troubleshooting common login issues
- Wrong password: Use the Forgot password link on the login page to reset via your registered email.
- 2FA codes not accepted: Check your mobile clock is set to automatic time; authenticator apps require correct device time. If still failing, use recovery codes.
- No access to email: Contact Bitstamp support with identity verification prepared (photo ID, account details).
- Account locked: Follow on-screen instructions — locked accounts are usually temporary and require verification to unlock.
Account recovery steps
- Use the Forgot password flow to reset your password via email.
- If you’ve lost 2FA, find your saved recovery codes. If unavailable, open a support ticket with Bitstamp and provide requested identity documents.
- Keep copies of verification documents ready: government ID, selfie with ID, proof of address, and any transaction history to speed up verification.
Security best practices
- Use a unique, strong password and a password manager.
- Prefer authenticator apps over SMS for 2FA.
- Keep recovery codes offline and never share them.
- Be cautious of phishing emails; always check the URL before entering credentials.
